Conciliation correspondence, 1938-1939.

This series consists of correspondence between the Ala. Dept. of Labor and J.R. Steelman, Director of Conciliation, U.S. Conciliation Service. It consists primarily of letters from Steelman containing information about terminated labor disputes in Ala. in which the U.S. Conciliation Service participated in mediations. A brief report on each dispute lists the company name and location, industry type, number of workers involved, names of management and labor representatives, a brief synopsis of the situation and the settlement. These reports are continued in the Ala. Dept of Industrial Relations, Division of Labor general correspondence files.
